Gerald Leander Hastings, born Mentally Challenged.
This is probably at Sagamore Beach, Cape Cod, MA.
Gerald was institutionalized at the age of eleven, this may be one of the last photographs taken of him prior to moving to The Walter E. Fernald State School in 1914, originally called the Massachusetts School for the Feeble-Minded, Waltham, MA. Living at this school, and working the land at this large campus, Gerald was killed when a tree fell on him on February 18, 1947 at 44 years old.
Harry Leander Hastings, Junior, also born Mentally Challenged
Born: 1-12-1912/Died at home: 12-24-1938. 26 years old.
There are no photographs of Gerald or Harry, Junior
as adults in any of the family archives.
